International
Institute for Energy Conservation (IIEC) is
a non-profit institution helping accelerate the global
adoption of energy-efficiency policies, technologies, and
practices to enable economically and ecologically sustainable
development. IIEC has offices in Africa, Asia, Europe,
and Latin America with strong ties with the policy makers,
financial institutions, businesses, and NGOs ultimately
responsible for the adoption and implementation of energy
efficiency measures and projects. IIEC's policy work today
influences greenhouse gas mitigation strategies in 12 countries
in Asia, Africa, South America, and Europe and has resulted
in innovative electricity sector investment policies in
Mexico, Thailand, the Philippines, and Poland. In addition,
IIEC's work with electric utilities, multilateral development
banks, and national policy makers in developing countries
has resulted directly in more than $280 million in commitments
to demand-side technology investments in Mexico, Thailand,
the Philippines, and Poland. IIEC's work with developing
country governments has led to the establishment of exemplary,
market-based efficiency technology diffusion "voluntary" programs
in the Philippines, Mexico, Poland, and South Africa.
International
Resources Group, Ltd. (IRG) is
a major consulting firm in energy policy, efficiency and
environment, global climate change issues including reducing
emissions and integrated resource planning and use of natural
resources. IRG staff is particularly expert in planning
and policy development, institutional strengthening, and
economic analysis and development. The firm has worked
in nearly 100 countries and maintains offices in a variety
of regions of the world. At present, IRG is implementing
long-term projects in 50 countries and maintains a portfolio
of more than $115 million of development projects for USAID,
the World Bank and other public and private clients.
IRG current
assignments range from assisting governments in Bangladesh,
China, Egypt, Guyana, India, Jordan, Kuwait, Pakistan, and
Zambia to restructure their power sectors, including development
of legal and regulatory regimes and tariff reforms, provide
energy efficiency "policy and practice" training
and to work directly with local utilities to improve operations
and efficiency. Staff is currently working with governments
and utilities in Central and Eastern Europe and the Baltic
Republics, India, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Nepal, and Pakistan
to develop appropriate policies to install the institutional
and technical capabilities required to increase the efficiency
of energy usage.
Princeton
Economic Research, Inc. (PERI) is a renewable energy
services company with nationally and internationally recognized
expertise in renewable energy policy and regulatory analysis,
finance strategies, market deployment and technology transfer,
outreach strategies, environmental assessment, and social
costs analysis. PERI's mission is to maintain industry
leadership in providing environmentally responsible energy
solutions that integrate technical, economic, and societal
perspectives. PERI staff has worked on identifying technical
barriers as well as financial and commercialization issues
relevant to renewable energy technologies in Africa (including
Egypt, Ethiopia and Malawi), Latin America (including Peru
and Brazil) and Asia (including India and Bangladesh).
PERI is significantly expert in geothermal development
and maintains strong ties to the renewable energy community
worldwide. PERI staff has an active working relationship
with the World Bank/Global Environmental Facility (GEF)
responsible for promoting clean alternative energy technologies
worldwide. In addition, PERI has designed, developed, and
conducted the Private Power Project Financing Training
Seminars throughout the developing world.
Resource
Management Associates (RMA) is
an international consulting services firm specializing
in energy efficiency, district heating, demand-side management,
energy resources development, and environmental planning
and management. For more than 17 years, RMA has worked
in more than 45 countries with a particular expertise in
countries of Asia and the former Soviet Union. RMA conducts
its worldwide energy and environment project work for the
public and private sectors, including national, regional,
and municipal governments; state-owned corporations; and
commercial enterprises. Through its work, RMA has fostered
the creation of 15 energy service companies (ESCOs) in
three countries; promoted packaged energy service and the
creation of 15 new local energy businesses with more than
200 personnel in three countries; and improved energy efficiency
and air quality in residences, industries, and commercial
enterprises through audits of 30 industries in seven countries.
World
Environment Center (WEC)
is an independent, not-for-profit, non-advocacy environmental
service organization whose goals are to contribute to sustainable
development worldwide by strengthening industrial and urban
environmental, health and safety policies and practices.
WEC has experience in many parts of the world through its
LAMP (Local Accident Mitigation and Prevention) Program
funded by the US Agency for International Development (USAID)
Office For Disaster Assistance (OFDA), a number of donor
and private sector activities and conducts an annual environmental,
energy and climate change forum for private and public
participants worldwide. In addition, WEC has developed
an Industrial Eco-Efficiency program. The program endeavors
to achieve economic and ecological effectiveness through
the optimal use of all inputs - energy, water, raw materials,
labor and capital. It components include, Pollution Prevention
Centers (PPC) which provide new technologies, professional
development, technical assistance, and training for industrial
eco=efficiency programs; the Waste Minimization and Energy
Conservation Program (WMECP) changes an operation's focus
from "end-of-pipe" pollution treatment to practices
that decrease pollution, increase process efficiency, and
conserve energy, water, and raw materials at the source
within the production process, and Project Identification
and Financing (PIAF) assists industries in obtaining market-rate
financing for environmental projects.
